A stone carved artifact from Level 3, Quadrant 1 of the Beiram Mound. The object is unprecedented in shape in this cultural sphere. It has the appearance of a scrotum--and could have been carved as a cultic offering--although the form is similar to bolos used by Eskimos. A group of bolos, each with a thong tied around the center groove are fastened together and thrown at birds in flight. The bolos entangle the birds and they fall to earth. However, there is no ethnographic evidence for Eurasian nomads to have used (or use) bolos.
